I like challenging books that make you think, and leave you happy that you did. Typically, I find character driven literary fiction the most satisfying, although I in no way think of myself as a serious literary critic.

The Sirens of Titan

The Sirens of Titan - Kurt Vonnegut I really enjoyed this book, although at times, I felt it might have been a little more scattered than some of the other ones I've read, but his overall treatment of the characters, and his exploration of the book's main themes were the same. This time, he concentrated on...

- The meaning of life (and whether or not there even is one)

- The purpose/benefits (or lack thereof) of religion in society.

- Humanism

They were well handled. Great stuff overall.
