Infinite Joe

I like challenging books that make you think, and leave you happy that you did. Typically, I find character driven literary fiction the most satisfying, although I in no way think of myself as a serious literary critic.

Hateship, Friendship, Courtship, Loveship, Marriage: Stories - Alice Munro 7 out of 10

I'm typically not a fan of short stories, as I like my characters fully developed, so that I feel like I know their innermost thoughts and desires. However, Munro seems to somehow be able to give you clear insight, through a special lens, into her characters. Different stories, involving different people, with different emotions. And they all seem to make you feel something different each time. I saw a reviewer mention that her writing is not ideal if you are looking for fluffy escapism. I agree. And that is why I like Munro.
